About Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is a thriving city in the heart of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The strong industrial tradition of the area translates to a high density of universities, research institutes and industrial sites in the city and region. The Neuroscience Network Düsseldorf is a collaborative research network in which basic and clinical neuroscientists from Heinrich Heine University (HHU) Düsseldorf (the conference hosts), the Research Centre Jülich, and the IUF – Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine work together in multidisciplinary projects ranging from basic brain research to translational and clinical neuroscience. It is also close to universities and institutes over the nearby Dutch border, for example, in Nijmegen.

It is very accessible, with a train station where international trains stop, an international airport (with a direct tram link to near the conference hotel) and good connections to Germany’s motorway network.

At the end of April, we can expect pleasant mild spring weather, with temperatures typically about 15° or higher, occasional showers and sunny intervals.

Altstad (old city) Düsseldorf

Venue

The conference will take place at a hotel within walking distance of Düsseldorf main station, and there is also a tram stop close by. Delegates arriving by car can arrange a car park place at favourable rates.

The hotel has pleasant meeting rooms of suitable sizes next to an open area for breaks where we will also have the posters and exhibition. There is a courtyard garden suitable for networking, weather permitting.

We will encourage delegates to stay in the same hotel and will reserve rooms for delegates to stay in at a good rate. The name of the venue will be announced shortly.

The hotel is in the vibrant “Little Tokyo” area of Düsseldorf, famous for its Japanese influence and home to the third-largest Japanese community in Europe. It has many Japanese restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. There is a centre for Japanese culture (the EKŌ-Haus) and a Japanese garden (see the photo, below).
